The Part-Time Activities Assistant supports the planning and delivery of engaging, person-centered recreational and therapeutic programs for residents in a long-term care environment. Working closely with the Activities Director, this role helps enhance residents’ quality of life by promoting physical, emotional, social, and cognitive well-being through meaningful activities. The Activities Assistant fosters a warm, respectful, and inclusive environment that honors each resident’s individual preferences, abilities, and dignity.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing daily activities and special events for residents
Lead and support group and individualized activities that promote engagement and participation
Encourage residents to participate while respecting their choices and independence
Set up, facilitate, and clean up activity areas and events
Provide one-on-one interaction with residents who may need additional support
Transport or escort residents to and from activities, as needed
Maintain a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment at all times
Document resident participation and attendance accurately
Assist in preparing and organizing activity supplies and materials
Collaborate with nursing and interdisciplinary team members to support resident care plans
Follow all facility policies, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required
Previous experience in long-term care, senior living, recreation, or a related field preferred
Compassionate, patient, and respectful demeanor when working with elderly populations
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Creative, energetic, and dependable
Basic organizational and documentation skills
Work Schedule
Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
Flexible hours; may include evenings, weekends, and holidays based on programming needs
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the facility for extended periods
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds for activity setup and support
Ability to assist residents with mobility (within scope and training)
